麥昆于1992年創立了自家品牌Alexander McQueen。Alexander McQueen 出品的設計往往令人驚喜萬分。1996年，當McQueen推出其首個正式的系列，其超低腰牛仔褲(“bumster pant”)，便成為翌日多份報章的時裝報導之頭條。
McQueen大膽創新的設計，很快便令其品牌與”Punk后”Vivienne Westwoord 相提并論，成為英國年青人追棒的對象。作為九十年代其中一位最有前途的年輕設計師的自家品牌，McQueen于美國，英國及意大利均開設了旗艦店。
McQueen首間旗艦店于2002年7月于紐約開設，而其余兩間也在翌年3月及7月分別于倫敦及米蘭成立，令McQueen的名字于三大時裝之都立下。
